Luniku: “They threatened me with death”

Former head of the Bank of Albania: “After the big thefts Berisha isolated me” Luniku: “They threatened me with death” Governor’s accusations: The government supported the usurers From Washington: “I had a lot of pressure to resign from the banks’ computer rentiers” Luniku: “I had gotten to know the Government. We went through a period of about 6 months that was marked by a calm, but not a positive calm. It was precisely during this period that open discussion about what was called economic reform also began to fade. Later, the first contacts for a technical government began, and during this period, in relations between the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank, the first disagreements began to appear. The new government was not understanding the role of the Bank and was taking on many obligations because of its own political problems. As for the rentier schemes, because of their distorted nature, the State Bank could not have any supportive role. Nevertheless, there were many pressures to stay silent or to set the issue aside. At a certain moment it became clear to me that they were isolating me. After the big thefts the situation became dramatic and I also received death threats.”

Lunuku’s accusations and the mysteries of the usury underbelly

Andrea Stefani The market of numerous voluntary credit schemes and deposit withdrawals is one of the most unusual phenomena of these years. Under the power of recent years it was left to grow at unbelievable speed and without any serious control. Gradually, it began to replace the normal financial sector, presenting itself as a quick solution for huge profits. Many warning signs were ignored. When the system collapsed, it became clear that the economic and social damage was much greater than had been acknowledged. Today the questions concern political responsibilities, the interests that fueled this market, and the real beneficiaries. In this sense, Lunuku’s accusations open a window into understanding not only the background of the usury schemes, but also the decision-making mechanisms of that time.

Here is the riddle of death

(From the monthly newspaper) (H. Pusho) QAFE SHTAME - “It is the riddle of death,” says a man waiting beside a mountain road. His voice is low and clipped. He points to the place where several young men have been killed, while bullets and armed ambushes have become a daily part of life. According to residents, armed groups move through this area, stopping cars, checking people, and demanding weapons or money. Fear has become normal. The tension can be felt everywhere, and the stories differ only in details, not in conclusion: death is very close.
